Digital Media Rights announced on Wednesday that its AsianCrush streaming platform will stream the anime adaptation of Fuyumi Ono's The Twelve Kingdoms novel series. All 45 episodes will be available with both the English dub and in Japanese with English subtitles on Friday, June 29.
Digital Media Rights' President David Chu said that the addition of The Twelve Kingdoms "marks a new commitment to anime across [Digital Madia Rights'] AsianCrush and Midnight Pulp OTT channels." He added that the company has "strong relationships with prominent Japanese animation studios such as NHK, King Records, and KBC Japan, as well as American home video distributor Discotek Media."
The Twelve Kingdoms premiered in 2002. Media Blasters originally offered the series in North America in August 2003 and then in a complete collection release in 2009. Media Blasters released the series on Blu-ray in 2011.
The story depicts a fantasy world inspired by classical China literature, where a girl named Yoko Nakajima finds herself after being transported from Japan. She becomes embroiled in the politics of the kingdom of Kei, as well as the other kingdoms.
