Series premieres on Toonami on September 8

Adult Swim began streaming an English-dubbed trailer for FLCL Alternative on Friday. The series will premiere on Adult Swim's Toonami block on September 8 at 11:30 p.m.

Adult Swim describes FLCL Alternative as a a series by "young creators who will redefine the meaning of "sequel."

The series centers on the misadventures of 17-year-old Kana, a high school junior who spends her days hanging out with her besties, Mossan, Hijiri, and Pets. They live unremarkable lives, until the day a Mecha falls out of the sky, along with a strange woman named “Haruko.” Her plans for Kana and her friends involve the force known as “ATOMSK.” Kana will have to risk everything to decide whether or not to help… like she really has a choice!

The dub cast includes:

  • Haruko: Kari Wahlgren
  • Kana: Megan Taylor Harvey
  • Pets: Marieve Herington
  • Hijiri: Erica Lindbeck
  • Mossan: Marianne Miller
  • Sudo: Patrick Seitz
  • Sasaki: Max Mittelman
  • Aida: Ben Pronsky
  • Bunta: Erick Abbate
  • Yoga: Steve Blum
  • Kitaki: Erica Schroeder
  • Kanda: Ray Chase

The first episode already premiered on Adult Swim on April 1.

FLCL Alternative is one of two sequels to the FLCL original video anime. FLCL Progressive already premiered with an English dub on June 3 on Adult Swim's Toonami block. At the request of Toho, Toonami delayed the English-subtitled streams of both FLCL Progressive and FLCL Alternative until November.

In Japan, the anime will debut in theatrical screenings, with FLCL Alternative opening first on September 7, and FLCL Progressive opening on September 28. An advance limited-edition Blu-ray disc for each film will be available in theaters the same day that the films premiere. The releases will bundle acrylic stands shaped like Haruko's guitar and Raharu's bass.
