Gempak Starz Licenses Nao Maita's Hoshi ni Negai o Short Manga Anthology

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Manga contains new sequel chapter for "Hoshi ni Negai o" story

Malaysian publisher Gempak Starz announced last Friday that it has licensed Nao Maita's Hoshi ni Negai o manga, and will release the book with the title Hajat Kepada Bintang.

Gempak Starz describes the manga:

The one I wished upon a star was you.

Right after confessing and being turned down by her crush Natsume, Hayasaka Kanou died in a traffic accident. But Kanou still had unfinished business to settle, and returned before Natsume as a ghost. They wanted to touch each other, but now they cannot. But their love for each other grows stronger.

The book is a special edition of Maita's previous book Sayonara Elevator, which Gempak Starz released with the title Lawang Penamat. It has a new side-story chapter to the titular "Hoshi ni Negai o" (Hajat Kepada Bintang) chapter. As with the previous book, it contains the "Kimi ga Kureta Kiseki" (Keajaiban Kau Beri) short manga, and the three-chapter romance horror story "Sayonara Elevator" (Lawang Penamat).

Maita published all the short manga in the book in Shogakukan's Ciao magazine. Shogakukan released the Sayonara Elevator in 2010, and it released Hoshi ni Negai o in June 2016.

Maita launched the Age 12 manga in 2012, and Shogakukan published the manga's 14th compiled book volume on March 30. The manga inspired the 12-Sai: Chiccha na Mune no Tokimeki (Age 12: A Little Heart-Pounding) television anime, which premiered in April 2016. The second season premiered in October 2016.

The manga has already inspired two original video anime series, with the first debuting in April 2014, and the second debuting in July 2015. Both were bundled in issues of Ciao magazine. The manga has also inspired a live-action adaptation, which was distributed on two DVDs bundled with Ciao magazine in 2015.
