Monster Hunter: World is Capcom's Best-Selling Game

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Game ships 10 million copies worldwide

CAPCOM announced on Monday that the Monster Hunter: World game has shipped 10 million copies worldwide as of August 20. The figure includes digital sales and the new PC release. The game is the best-selling title in CAPCOM's history.

The Monster Hunter series has cumulatively shipped 50 million copies worldwide as of August 20.

Monster Hunter: World launched worldwide on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on January 26, and shipped 5 million copies worldwide (including digital sales) in its first three days to set a new franchise record. The number had reached 8.3 million in July.

CAPCOM recently launched the game for PC on August 9.

In China, Tencent's game platform WeGame suspended sales of the game on PC shortly after launch. The company reported that the Chinese government ordered the suspension because the game did not comply to unspecified regulations.

The new game is an open world game that no longer has the previous games' loading screens in between areas, and thus no longer allows players to use zone transitions as safe zones. The game has a "living ecosystem" that allows players to use and destroy elements of the environment, and use monster behaviors against other monsters.
