The wraparound jacket band on the ninth volume of Kanoko Sakurakoji's Seirou Opera (Edo Brothel Opera) manga revealed on Friday that the manga has entered its "climax" of the story with the volume. The volume also revealed that the manga has 1.85 million combined copies of books in print and digital sales.
Sakurakoji launched the manga in Shogakukan's Betsucomi magazine in January 2015. The manga takes place in the Edo period in the Yoshiwara red light district, and follows Akane, who comes from a samurai family. She has lost her family, and is sold to a brothel in the district. There, Akane learns how to be a courtesan, and becomes entangled with a mysterious man.
Sakurakoji ended her three-volume Last Notes manga in June 2014, after launching the manga in 2013.
Sakurakoji is best known for her supernatural romance manga Black Bird, which also ran in Betsucomi and ended in December 2012. Viz Media published the manga in North America. Viz Media also published Sakurakoji's two-volume Backstage Prince manga in North America.
