Onimusha: Warlords Gets HD Release on Switch/PS4/Xbox One/PC

Game features rerecorded Japanese voices, new soundtrack

CAPCOM announced a high-definition upgrade of its 2001 PlayStation 2 game Onimusha: Warlords on Tuesday. The game will debut for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam in North America and Europe on January 15. Physical versions will be available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The port will feature rerecorded Japanese voices, including Takeshi Kaneshiro returning as Samanosuke, and a new soundtrack. The player will be able to switch between the game's original resolution (4:3) and widescreen (16:9) at any time, with a screen scroll feature available for widescreen. The game has a new easy mode and analog stick support.

CAPCOM last released Onimusha Soul, a port of the 2012 browser game, in 2014 on the PlayStation 3. AnimeWorks released Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams, a CG film compiling footage from the 2006 PlayStation 2 game of the same name, in 2013.

CAPCOM registered trademarks for Onimusha in some countries outside of Japan in April. CAPCOM producer Yoshinori Ono previously stated in 2016 that plans to revisit the series were in discussion "at high levels."
