HIDIVE to Stream Both Negima TV Anime

Streaming begins on September 6 in U.S., Canada

Streaming service HIDIVE announced on Thursday that it will stream the 2005 Negima! anime and the 2006-2007 Negima!? anime in the United States and Canada. The first three episodes of Negima! will be available with both English subtitles and Japanese audio and with the English dub on September 6 at 12:00 p.m. EDT. New episodes will launch on Thursdays. Negima!? will begin streaming in November after the other series has concluded.

Sentai Filmworks announced in January in that it has licensed both series for North America. Funimation had previously released both in North America.

Ken Akamatsu's original Negima! Magister Negi Magi manga ran from 2003 to 2012. Del Rey Manga began publishing the manga in North America, but Kodansha Comics took over publishing duties for this title and others in 2010.

Xebec's Negima! anime adapted material from the manga's early volumes, with a focus more on the manga's romantic comedy story as opposed to the magic battles, and contains an anime-original ending. Shaft's Negima!? anime, from director Akiyuki Simbo, told an alternate storyline that also diverged from the manga.

Akamatsu's sequel manga UQ Holder! also inspired an anime, which Sentai Filmworks has licensed. The series aired last fall and streamed on Amazon's Anime Strike.
