Junya Enoki, Tomo Muranaka, Ayu Matsuura cast in new story 1 year after Unicorn

Sunrise's Gundam.info YouTube channel began streaming an English-subtitled teaser video on Wednesday for Mobile Suit Gundam Narrative (Kidō Senshi Gundam NT), the new anime project for the Gundam franchise. The video contains the same footage as the earlier Japanese teaser video.

The anime will open in 90 theaters in Japan on November 30.

The anime's cast so far includes:

Junya Enoki as Jona Basta, 25 years old. An ensign in the Earth Federation Space Force, and the pilot of the Narrative Gundam. He is the childhood friend of Michele and Rita. He was a survivor of the colony drop in Australia as a child.

Tomo Muranaka as Michele Luio, 25 years old, and a special adviser to the Luio Firm. She is a specialist at fortune telling via bamboo stick divination, and has earned the complete trust of the financial world.

Ayu Matsuura as Rita Bernal, 25 years old, and also an ensign in the Earth Federation Space Force, and the pilot of the Phenex. She, like Jona, was a survivor of the disaster in Australia in her childhood.

Shunichi Yoshizawa (Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt, Gundam: Reconguista in G episode director) is directing the anime at Sunrise Studio #1. Harutoshi Fukui (Mobile Suit Gundam UC) is penning the script. Kumiko Takahashi is in charge of the main original character designs, and Se Jun Kim (Mobile Suit Gundam Twilight AXIS) is designing the characters for animation. Hajime Katoki and Eiji Komatsu are in charge of mechanical design.

Takako Suzuki is the color key artist. Yukiko Maruyama and Yoshimi Mineda are the art directors. Eriko Kimura is the sound director, and Hiroyuki Sawano is composing the music. Daisuke Imai is the editor, Kumiko Taniguchi is the special effects director, and Kentarō Waki is the director of photography. Tomohiro Fujie is the CG director, and Yoshinori Sayama is credited for "monitor design."

Sunrise describes the anime's story:

U.C. 0097, one year after the opening of "Laplace's Box." Despite the revelation of the Universal Century Charter that acknowledges the existence and rights of Newtypes, the framework of the world has not been greatly altered.

The conflict later dubbed the "Laplace Incident" is thought to have ended with the downfall of the Neo Zeon remnants known as the Sleeves. In its final battle, two full psycho-frame mobile suits displayed power beyond human understanding. The white unicorn and the black lion were sealed away to remove this danger from people's consciousness, and they should now be completely forgotten.

However, the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam 03, which disappeared two years earlier, is now about to show itself in the Earth Sphere once more. A golden phoenix... named Phenex.

The new project is set in U.C. 0097 of the Universal Century (U.C.) timeline of the original Mobile Suit Gundam series and Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn. The project's tagline is "The Destination of the Newtype Myth."

The anime is part of a new "UC NexT 0100 Project" that will tackle the future of the UC timeline. The project will also include a "New Tactical Game Project" for smartphones, manga, and novels.
