Final Godzilla Anime Film to Close Tokyo Int'l Film Fest

3rd film in anime film trilogy opens in Japan on November 9

The Tokyo International Film Festival announced on Wednesday that Godzilla: The Planet Eater (Godzilla: Hoshi wo Kū Mono), the third and final film in the Godzilla anime film trilogy, will close out the Festival. The event from October 25 to November 3 at Roppongi Hills, EX Theater Roppongi, and the Hibiya Step Square.

In addition, Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters (Godzilla: Kaijū Wakusei), the first film, will open in China on September 21.

The film opens in Japanese theaters on November 9.

Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters (Godzilla: Kaijū Wakusei), the first film, opened in Japan last November. Netflix began streaming the film worldwide on January 17.

The second film in the trilogy, Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle (Godzilla: Kessen Kidō Zōshoku Toshi), opened in Japan on May 18, and ranked at #8 in its opening weekend at the box office. Netflix began streaming the film worldwide on July 18.

Kobun Shizuno (Detective Conan: The Darkest Nightmare and other Detective Conan movies, Fist of the North Star: The Legend of Kenshirô, Fist of the North Star: The Legend of Toki) and Hiroyuki Seshita (Ajin, Knights of Sidonia) are directing the films at Polygon Pictures. Gen Urobuchi (Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Fate/Zero, Psycho-Pass) of Nitroplus is credited with the story concept and screenplay. Urobuchi is also responsible for series composition with Yūsuke Kozaki.

Hiroyuki Morita is serving as assistant director, and Naohiro Yoshihira ("Tady") is the technical director. Naoya Tanaka and Ferdinando Patulli are production designers, and Yuki Moriyama is designing the characters in CG. Mitsunori Kataama is the model director. Yukihiro Shibutani is the art director, and Hironori Nochi is the color key artist. Satoshi Motoyama is the sound director.
