Pokémon GO Game Reveals All-New Mythical Pokémon Meltan

Ditto disguised as Meltan debuted in smartphone game on Saturday

The Pokémon Company International announced on Tuesday that the Pokémon that debuted in Niantic's Pokémon GO smartphone game on Saturday is the all-new Mythical Pokémon Meltan. The company describes the creature as the Hex Nut Pokémon, and it began streaming an introduction video for Meltan on Tuesday.

Meltan debuted in Pokémon GO without a name on Saturday and spawned in increased numbers for 30 minutes after the Chikorita Community Day event ended in each region of the world. The Pokémon is still available in the game, but spawns decreased after its debut in each region. However, when players catch Meltan in the smartphone game, it transforms into Ditto, revealing that its current version in the game is actually Ditto in disguise.

Niantic announced earlier this month that Deoxys will soon replace Mewtwo in EX Raid Battles. Mewtwo was previously the only Pokémon to appear in EX Raid Battles in the game, but it is currently available in regular Raid Battles until October 23. Deoxys will be the third Mythical Pokémon to be catchable in the game after Mew and Celebi.

Niantic revealed earlier this month that active usage of the game has increased 35% since May, and tens of millions of players continue to play the game every month. The developer also revealed that a PokéStop nomination system will soon roll out in the game, starting in Brazil and South Korea.

The Pokémon GO app launched in select countries including the United States in July 2016.
