Hugtto! Precure Anime Film Tops Japanese Box Office in Debut Weekend for Tickets Sold

Film sells 300,000+ tickets in 1st 2 days to earn 350 million yen

The Eiga Hugtto! Precure ♡ Futari wa Precure All Stars Memories crossover film topped Japan's box office chart for the October 27-28 weekend in terms of ticket sales. The film opened in Japan on Saturday, and sold more than 300,000 tickets and earned more than 350 million yen (about US$3.13 million) in its first two days.

The film, with a theme of "memories," marks a revival of the "All Stars" film series, and also commemorates the overall franchise's 15th anniversary. The film features 55 Precures, and earned the Guinness World Record for "Most magical warriors in an anime film" on Saturday. The previous film in the "All Stars" series, Eiga Precure All Stars: Minna de Utau Kiseki no Mahō!, opened in Japan in March 2016. Crossover films after that were titled Eiga Precure Dream Stars! and Precure Super Stars!.

Hugtto! Precure, the latest television anime series in the franchise, premiered on February 4. The original Futari wa Precure series ran from 2004 to 2005.

The Laws of the Universe: Part 1, HS Pictures Studio's new anime film sequel to the The Laws of the Universe Part 0 religious anime film, fell from #1 to #3 in its third weekend. It earned 83,277,058 (about US$740,900) yen from Friday to Sunday, and has earned a cumulative total of 565,355,408 yen (about US$5.02 million).

The Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Detonation and Natsume Yujin-cho the Movie: Ephemeral Bond anime films, the 4D screenings for the Detective Conan: Zero the Enforcer anime film, and the live-action film of Rie Aruga's Perfect World manga all fell from the top 10 list for the October 27-28 weekend. The Detective Conan: Zero the Enforcer screenings earned 61,209,300 (about US$544,400) from Friday to Sunday, and the film as a whole has earned a cumulative total of 9,004,878,800 yen (about US$80 million). Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Detonation earned 37,281,700 yen (about US$331,600) from Friday to Sunday, and has earned a cumulative total of 168,156,500 yen (about US$1.49 million). Natsume Yujin-cho the Movie: Ephemeral Bond earned 34,294,600 yen (about US$305,000) from Friday to Sunday, and it has earned a cumulative total of 794,303,320 yen (about US$7.06 million).
