The official website for the Milky Holmes franchise revealed the visual and story summary on Monday for a new television anime special in the franchise that will air on December 31 on Tokyo MX. Bushiroad had revealed the special's title as Milky Holmes: Psycho no Aisatsu (Milky Holmes: A Psycho's Greeting) on August 31.
The below key visual also features the protagonist of the Cardfight! Vanguard television anime series Aichi Sendō. In the story of the special, the members of Milky Holmes will investigate to return a stolen card that contains Aichi Sendō's memories.
The Milky Holmes voice actress unit — made up of voice actresses Suzuko Mimori, Sora Tokui, Mikoi Sasaki, and Izumi Kitta — will hold their final live concert on January 28 at the Nippon Budōkan, and will break up after that. The title of their final live concert is "Milky Holmes Final Live Q.E.D." The group's final single (cover images pictured below) shipped on October 17.
Project Milky Holmes began in February 2009, and Mimori, Tokui, and Kitta started a radio show in December 2009. The franchise would then branch into anime, games, manga, and novels in the following year. The four main voice actresses (with the addition of Sasaki after auditions) play young female detectives named after famous characters in mystery literature. The voice actresses formed a unit in February 2010 and made their singing debut in June 2010. They have since performed at the famed Nippon Budōkan venue in December 2012 and appeared in overseas events.
The franchise has inspired four Detective Opera Milky Holmes television anime series and several anime specials. An anime film opened in Japan in February 2016, and the most recent special aired on New Year's Eve in 2017.
