Company earns 836 million yen net profit in current fiscal year

Game developer Nihon Falcom released its quarterly financial report on Thursday, which noted that the company is working on a brand new title in the Ys role-playing game series. The company plans to release the game within the next fiscal year, which will end on September 30, 2019.

The report also revealed that Nihon Falcom has earned 2.357 billion yen (about US$20 million) in sales in the current fiscal year, a 14.7% increase from the same period last year. The company also reported an operating income of 1.294 billion yen (about US$11 million), a 33.7% increase. The company reported a net profit of 836 million yen (about US$7.3 million) for the company for the current fiscal year so far, a 30.2% increase from the same period last year. Finally, its licensing business reported sales of 1.234 billion yen (about US$10 million), a 35.2% increase from last year.

Nihon Falcom also reported that its The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel series has sold more than 1.5 million copies worldwide.

Nihon Falcom released Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana in Japan in May 2017, and NIS America released the game for PS4 and PS Vita in North America and Europe in September 2017. NIS America released the game on PC on April 17 after a delay from its previous January 2018 release date.

NIS America then released the game for Nintendo Switch on June 26 in North America, and on June 29 in Europe. The release included three patches to fix text issues and other issues with the game. The earlier PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita versions reportedly had issues with the localization following launch — NIS America apologized for the low quality in October 2017 and released a free patch on January 30.

Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana has sold more than 500,000 copies worldwide.
