Parody series launched in 2007, inspired anime shorts

The January 2019 issue of Kadokawa's Monthly Shōnen Ace magazine revealed on Monday that Puyo's The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi-chan four-panel gag manga will end in the next issue on December 26.

The parody of Nagaru Tanigawa and Noizi Ito's The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya light novel series launched in the magazine in July 2007. The 11th compiled volume shipped in February 2017. Yen Press published the latest volume in English last December.

The spinoff inspired a series of net anime shorts from Kyoto Animation in 2009, and Bandai Entertainment released the series on DVD alongside the Nyorōn Churuya-san anime in 2011. Funimation rereleased both anime in 2016.

Tanigawa and Ito published 11 novels for the original series between 2003-2011. The Little, Brown Books for Young Readers imprint released the entire series in 10 volumes between 2009-2013.

The first season of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya anime series premiered in 2006 in a non-linear order, and was rebroadcast in 2009 with new episodes and a new chronological order. Kyoto Animation animated the show's first and second seasons.
