Akita police identify discovered body, but foul play is not suspected

Police in Akita prefecture identified a previously discovered body as Kō Takashina, the writer of Lupin III anime episodes, according to press inquiries on Tuesday. He was 76. The authorities cannot determine the cause of death, but foul play is not suspected.

According to investigators, a company worker visiting on a job assignment discovered and reported the body on October 10. The body had no noticeable external injuries, but was already in a state of decomposition.

Takashina, whose birth name was Akinari Takashina, was born in the former town of Tazawako (now incorporated into Semboku City). After graduating from Kakunodate High School, he moved to Tokyo. According to the Writers Guild of Japan, Takashina wrote scripts for episodes of Lupin III: Part II and Lupin III: Part III, the live-action detective series Taiyō ni Hoero! (Howl at the Sun!), the live-action period drama series Momotarō-Zamurai, and other popular television programs. After he returned to home to Semboku, he made a living as an author. He also serialized columns in the newspaper Akita Sakigake Shimpo.
