Live-Action Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku Film Delayed to 2020

Film was originally slated to open in 2019

TOHO revealed at a 2019 lineup presentation on Thursday that the live-action film adaptation of Fujita's Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku (Otaku ni Koi wa Muzukashii) manga will now open in 2020. The film was originally slated for next year.

Mitsuki Takahata (Napping Princess' Kokone Morikawa) and Kento Yamazaki (live-action Death Note series' L) are starring in the film as Narumi and Hirotaka, respectively. Yūichi Fukuda (live-action Gintama) is directing the film.

The manga's story centers on the awkward romantic comedy between Narumi, a female office worker who hides her fujoshi lifestyle, and Hirotaka, a handsome and capable company man who is secretly a game otaku.

Fujita launched the manga on the image sharing website pixiv in 2014. In November 2015, the manga moved to Ichijinsha's Comic POOL digital manga magazine. The manga's seventh volume will ship on March 29 and a limited edition will bundle an anime on Blu-ray Disc. Kodansha Comics is releasing the manga in English, and released the third omnibus volume on November 20.

The manga inspired an 11-episode television anime adaptation that premiered on April 12. The anime streamed on Amazon Prime Video inside and outside of Japan.
