Game Designer, Animator Mayumi Hirota Passes Away

Worked on character designs for Fire Emblem: Thracia 776, Tear Ring Saga

Illustrator and manga creator Junko Morozumi announced on Thursday that illustrator Mayumi Hirota passed away "a few days ago." Morozumi did not give an exact date. Hirota's family held a private funeral.

Hirota was best known as the illustrator for the Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 game for the Super Famicom. Hirota also worked on the designs for Tear Ring Saga, which also featured designs by Fire Emblem creator Shōzō Kaga. Hirota worked on the designs for Vestaria Saga, also designed by Kaga. The Fire Emblem trading card game also used Hirota's art for Fire Emblem: Thracia 776.

Hirota also worked as a key animator on such anime as Mobile Suit Gundam F91, Fire Emblem, Crusher Joe: The Movie, Urusei Yatsura: Remember My Love, Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, Dirty Pair: Project Eden, Here Is Greenwood, Yu Yu Hakusho, Ocean Waves, 801 T.T.S. Airbats, Fushigi Yugi, and Shinesman.
