Touken Ranbu Gets New Musical in Fall 2019

The official website for the Touken Ranbu musicals announced on Sunday that the franchise will get a new musical in fall 2019. In addition, the site revealed that the Musical Touken Ranbu Higekiri Hizamaru Sōki Shutsujin 2019 (Higekiri and Hizamaru Riding Out Together) stage musical will run at the Shinagawa Prince Hotel Stellar Ball on July 4 to 14. The "Kashū Kiyomitsu Solo Performance" event will also have an Asian tour in spring 2019.

Isamu Kayano is returning to direct the Musical Touken Ranbu Higekiri Hizamaru Sōki Shutsujin 2019 musical, and Chūji Mikasano (Tokyo Ghoul anime) is writing the script. Shinnosuke Motoyama (Hakuōki, Vampire Knight musicals) is in charge of choreography and staging.

Touken Ranbu - Atsukashiyama Ibun, the first stage musical, held its first trial performance in 2015, with its debut run held from May to June 2016. The second musical, Touken Ranbu - Bakumatsu Tenrōden, ran from September to October 2016, with a final performance in Tokyo in November 2016. Touken Ranbu Mihotose no Komoriuta, the franchise's third stage musical, ran from March to April 2017. Touken Ranbu - Tsuwamono Domo ga Yume no Ato, the fourth stage musical, debuted in December and ran through January. The fifth stage musical, Touken Ranbu: The Musical "Musubi no Hibiki, Hajimari no Ne," debuted on March 24 and had its final performance on May 6. The fifth musical received 4DX screenings on November 9.

Touken Ranbu Mihotose no Komoriuta will have a new run from January to March 2019. The play will have two parts, and the second part will feature a performance with new songs, costumes, and staging.

The related "Kashū Kiyomitsu Solo Performance," which featured actor Ryūji Satō in live performances as his character Kashū Kiyomitsu, ran in Tokyo on September 12-17, in Miyagi on September 20-21, in Osaka on October 6-8, and then in Hokkaido on October 13. The musicals ran a similar event last year.

The franchise also has a separate series of stage plays. The fifth stage play ran from June 2 to July 29. A new stage play will debut in 2019.
