Studio 5's production is inspired by Journey to the West

The 3DCG animation production company 5 Inc. began streaming a promotional video for the original Monkey Gang Anarchy animated work on Wednesday. Both Japanese and Taiwanese staff members are working on the project at Studio 5's Taiwanese branch (五號影像有限公司 Studio5).

The action story is inspired by Wu Cheng'en's classic Chinese novel Journey to the West, "which tells of the crimes Sun Wukong committed and his atonement." 5 Inc.'s website lists the target audience as 14- to 30-year-old males, and lists the "estimated license categories" as "Movie, Short film, TV animation, Web animation."

5 Inc.'s website also features character and prop designs for the animated project. The dates in the images reveal the work has been in development since at least 2016.

Yuichiro Hayashi (Garo: Divine Flame, Kakegurui) is directing the work. Hidetaka Tenjin (mechanical designer for Hellsing Ultimate, Knight's & Magic) is designing the characters and world. Tera Effect's Polun Tsai (Azure Striker Gunvolt) is the director of photography. Various creators from Studio 5's Taiwanese branch are also participating in the production. The work marks the Taiwanese studio's establishment.
