Yo-Kai Watch Anime Gets New Series in April With Returning Protagonist Keita
posted on by Karen Ressler
This year's March issue of Shogakukan's Coro Coro Comics magazine announced on Friday that a new Yo-kai Watch anime series will begin on April 5. Unlike the currently airing Yo-kai Watch: Shadowside anime, the new series will return to the original title of simply "Yo-kai Watch" and bring back Keita (Nate in the English version) as the main character. Oriental Light and Magic (OLM) is returning to animate the series.
Likewise, the manga will get a renewal this spring and bring back Keita as the lead.
The Yo-kai Watch anime changed its name to Yo-kai Watch: Shadowside last April and switched the focus to Keita's children Keisuke and Natsume. The series was preceded by the Yo-kai Watch Shadowside: Oni-ō no Fukkatsu film, which debuted in December 2017 and inspired a manga adaptation in Coro Coro Comics. Natsume was the main protagonist of the film
Level 5 will release the next game in the franchise, Yo-kai Watch 4, this spring. The game will "connect" the three "worlds" of Keita, Natsume, and the protagonist of the Yōkai Watch: Forever Friends film Shin. (The film opened on December 14.)
