Presidio began streaming two trailers for Chimamire Sukeban Chainsaw Red, the new live-action film adaptation of Rei Mikamoto's Chimamire Sukeban Chainsaw manga, on Monday. The first video below previews the first film, while the second video previews the second film.
The project consists of two films that will both open in Japan on Friday with 4DX screenings. The first film (left visual below) is subtitled "Nero no Fukushū" (Nero's Revenge). The second film (right) is subtitled "Geeko no Kakusei" (Geeko Awakens).
Nana Asakawa will play protagonist Geeko in the films. Ano from pop group You'll Melt More! will play antagonist Nero Aoi. Asana Mamoru plays Nemesis, the leader of Uguisu Academy's New Student Council Guardians. Other cast members include Nanami Hidaka, Momoko Kaechi, and Jun Aonami.
The original manga centers around Geeko Nokomura, who is in a lone struggle to confront her classmate Nero Aoi. Nero turned all of their classmates into zombies. To get to her, Geeko cuts down all of her former classmates.
Mikamoto launched the original manga in Comic Beam magazine in 2009 and ended it in March 2017. Kadokawa published the manga's 13th and final compiled book volume in the same month. Mikamoto launched a second manga titled Chimamire Sukeban Chainsaw refresh in Comic Beam last September.
A previous live-action film adaptation premiered opened in Japan in 2016.
Dark Horse Comics published the first six volumes of Mikamoto's Reiko the Zombie Shop manga in North America. Reiko the Zombie Shop was adapted into a three-part live-action video series in 2004. Mikamoto's Kyonyū Dragon manga was also adapted into a live-action movie in 2010. Funimation released the film in North America in 2011.
