The Caligula Effect: Overdose Game's Trailer Previews New 'Villain's' Route

Player has option to join villains in upcoming remake

NIS America began streaming a trailer for the The Caligula Effect: Overdose game on Monday. The trailer features the Ostinato Musicians, who were antagonists in the original game. The Caligula Effect: Overdose offers a new 'villain's' route where the player has the option of betraying the heroes and joining the Ostinato Musicians.

The game will launch for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam in North America on March 12, and in Europe on March 15.

NIS America describes the game:

Mobius. An idyllic world that exists for the sake of letting people forget about the pain and problems of reality. In this world created by a sentient vocaloid program, μ (Mu), reality and fantasy has become blurred, allowing people to relive their high school years in bliss. Yet in this seemingly beautiful and perfect world, something is amiss. Escape from this false paradise with your fellow students and return to reality in The Caligula Effect: Overdose!

The game is a remake of FuRyu's The Caligula Effect PlayStation Vita game that uses Unreal Engine 4, and features enhanced graphics for event scenes, as well as a redesigned battle system and user interface.

The game shipped in Japan for the PS4 on May 17.

The original game shipped in Japan for the PS Vita in June 2016. Atlus USA launched the game in North America and Europe in May 2017. The release was digital-only in the West.

The original game inspired a 12-episode television anime adaptation that premiered on April 8. Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired in Japan.
