Pokémon Smartphone Games Earn US$2.5 Billion Worldwide

Pokémon GO accounts for 98% of revenue

Mobile app data analysis organization Sensor Tower reported on Wednesday that players of smartphone games and apps for the Pokémon franchise have so far spent approximately US$2.5 billion. Niantic's Pokémon GO game accounts for nearly US$2.45 billion, or 98% of the amount, with five other titles — Pokémon Shuffle Mobile, Pokémon Duel, Pokémon Quest, Pokémon: Magikarp Jump, and Pokémon TCG Online — accounting for the other US$50 million.

Players in the United States spent the most with about US$875 million or 35% of the amount, with players in Japan accounting for US$725 million, or 29%.

The franchise has seen a total combined number of installs at nearly 640 million since 2014, with Pokémon GO accounting for 550 million installs.

Sensor Tower reported in January that the game earned an estimated US$795 million worldwide in 2018, about a 35% increase over its revenue from 2017.
