Kedama no Gonjiro Anime Premieres on April 6, Smartphone Game Launches on April 20 (Updated)

Series based on mascot character stars Shizuka Ishigami, Shin Matsushige

This year's April issue of Shogakukan's Coro Coro Comics magazine revealed on Friday that the Kedama no Gonjiro anime based on the "Gonjiro" mascot character will premiere on April 6 at 10:00 a.m. on TV Tokyo and its affiliates. The show will also air on Animax and Kids Station, and will stream on YouTube on the Coro Coro Comics channel.

The magazine also announced that a smartphone game in the franchise titled Kedama no Gonjiro: Fit and Run will launch on April 20. The franchise is also getting a set of collectible buttons as merchandise on April 20.

Yasunari Nagatoshi launched the Kedama no Gonjiro manga in the October issue of Shogakukan's Coro Coro Comics magazine on September 15.

Sony revealed the mascot character at a press conference in September 2017. The character is a collaboration between Sony Interactive Entertainment, Sony Music Entertainment, Aniplex, and Shogakukan.

Update: The show's staff revealed on Friday that CHAI will perform the show's opening theme song "Let's Gonjiro!," and Demon Kakka will perform the ending theme song "Wasa Wasa Wasa!" The anime will star Shizuka Ishigami as Makoto Maegami and Shin Matsushige as Gonjirō.

Kenshirō Morii is the show's series director at OLM and Wit Studio. Hatsue Kato is designing the characters, and Gigaemon Ichikawa is overseeing the series scripts. Shigeru Yamamoto is composing the music, and Takatoshi Hamano is the sound director. Source: Comic Natalie
