Sega to Halt Sales of A Certain Magical Virtual-On PS4/Vita Game

PS4 ports of 3 other Virtual-On games are not affected

The official website for Sega's A Certain Magical Virtual-On (To Aru Majutsu no Virtual-On) PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita game announced on Wednesday that due to "various circumstances," Sega will temporarily halt sales of the game's physical and digital versions on Thursday. However, Sega emphasized that this does not affect the game's support for the XVCD-18-b 18-Shiki Control Device Twin Stick peripheral that Tanita plans to release, nor Sega's plans to port three other Virtual-On games (Cyber Troopers Virtual-On, Cyber Troopers Virtual-On: Oratorio Tangram M.S.B.S. Ver. 5.66, and Cyber Troopers: Virtual-On Force) to the PlayStation 4.

A Certain Magical Virtual-On game shipped in Japan in February 2018.

As the title indicates, the game is a collaboration between Kazuma Kamachi's A Certain Magical Index light novel series and Sega's Virtual-On video game franchise.

Kadokawa published the original Toaru Majutsu no Index x Dennō Senki Virtual-On: Toaru Majutsu no Virtual-On (A Certain Magical Index x Cyber Troopers Virtual-On: A Certain Magical Virtual-On) collaboration novel in May 2016. Kazuma Kamachi wrote the novel, and Virtual-On designer Hajime Katoki illustrated the book. A manga adaptation of the novel launched on Kadokawa's ComicWalker site in December 2017, and is ongoing.
