Sega announced on Wednesday that it is developing a new PlayStation 4 game in the Yakuza (Ryū ga Gotoku) series with the character Ichiban Kasuga as the new protagonist. The production is also accepting applications to audition for a female character who will be Kasuga's friend throughout the game. Sega describes the character as "main character level," and it is the first time Sega is holding an audition for the series for this level of a role.
Aside from voicing the character in the game, the winner of the audition will also be part of the promotional campaign for the new game, and will receive 1 million yen (about US$9,000) as a bonus cash prize.
Yakuza 6: The Song of Life, the latest numbered game in the series, launched on the PS4 in Japan in December 2016 and launched in North America in April 2018.
While Kazuma Kiryū's story ended with Yakuza 6: The Song of Life, Yakuza Online started a "New Yakuza" series with Ichiban Kasuga as the protagonist. Kazuhiro Nakaya voices the character. Sega stated in August 2017 that it planned to continue the "New Yakuza" series with console games after Yakuza Online launched.
