Publisher Houbunsha's manga service launched on Friday with free, paid options

Japanese publisher Houbunsha launched its Comic Fuz manga app and website on Friday. The app allows users to read Houbunsha's manga magazines and the series they publish.

A new manga adaptation of the Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story (Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Gaiden) smartphone role-playing game's "Another Story" arc launched in the app. Afro's Laid-Back Camp (Yurucamp) manga also moved from Houbunsha's Manga Time Kirara magazine to the app. Additionally, Houbunsha plans to release original works in the app.

Basic service is free, but a monthly membership for 480 yen (about US$4.30) offers an unlimited reading plan for members. More than 1,700 manga chapters are available to read for free. Users can receive one medal in the app every 30 minutes and use accumulated medals to read manga available in a serialization corner that updates daily. The app received more than 50,000 pre-registrations, and new users receive 1,000 bonus medals for the launch.

With the paid version of the app, users can read current and past issues of Houbunsha's Manga Time Kirara, Manga Time Kirara Max, Manga Time Kirara Forward, Manga Time Kirara Carat, Shūkan Manga Times, Hanaoto, and kyapi! magazines. Hanaoto and kyapi! are only available to read on the service's website. The individual manga available to users include more than 30 titles such as New Game!, Doujin Work, Hidamari Sketch, Kin-iro Mosaic, K-ON!, Is the order a rabbit?, and Blend S.
