DeNA launched tactical tower defense game in Japan on Thursday

Crunchyroll announced on Thursday that DeNA will release KAYAC's Attack on Titan TACTICS tactical role-playing smartphone game for iOS and Android devices in English this summer. Pre-registration is available in the United States, Canada, and Australia. Crunchyroll Games is partnering with DeNA to market the game in the three countries.

DeNA released the game in Japan on Thursday. DeNA is offering campaigns that offer in-game rewards such as Crystals and five-star characters to mark the launch. The company originally announced the game in September for release this past winter.

The free-to-play game based on the Attack on Titan anime features the voice cast of the anime with original recordings. In the tower defense game, players use weapons and set traps to defend the city and combat Titans. Players can choose from more than 38 characters with unique roles, abilities, and skills to make teams. The smartphone game also features all-new scenarios, alternate stories, and "exclusive interact chats."

The release is Crunchyroll Games' third project after the Bungo Stray Dogs: Tales of the Lost game and the Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? -- MEMORIA FREESE -- smartphone game.

Mobage released the first Shingeki no Kyojn (Attack on Titan) smartphone game in 2012. The Shingeki no Kyojin -Hangeki no Tsubasa- (Attack on Titan: The Wings of Counterattack) smartphone game launched on the GREE mobile platform in 2013. The Shingeki no Kyoujin -Jiyū he no Hōkō- (Attack on Titan -Call for Freedom-) smartphone game launched through Mobage in 2014.

Update: A previous version of this article stated that Crunchyroll is releasing the game. However, the article has been corrected to reflect that DeNA is releasing the game, and Crunchyroll is assisting with marketing.
