Sega Reveals 10 More Games for 'Sega Genesis Mini' Console

Games include Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Contra: Hard Corps, Streets of Rage 2

Sega revealed 10 more games for its Sega Genesis Mini console on Thursday.

The newly announced games for the United States version of the console are:

  • Earthworm Jim
  • Sonic the Hedgehog 2
  • Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse
  • World of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck
  • Contra: Hard Corps
  • Streets of Rage 2
  • Thunder Force III
  • Super Fantasy Zone
  • Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master
  • Landstalker

The newly announced games for the Japanese version of the console are:

  • I Love Mickey & Donald: Fushigi na Magic Box (World of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck
  • Game no Kanzume Otokuyō
  • Contra: The Hard Corps (Contra: Hard Corps)
  • Thunder Force III
  • Super Fantasy Zone
  • Dyna Brothers 2
  • The Hybrid Front
  • Bare Knuckle II: Shitō e no Chinkonka (Streets of Rage 2)
  • Musha Aleste (MUSHA)
  • Landstalker

Sega will release the console in the U.S. for US$79.99 on September 19. The release will include the console with 40 games, two controllers, a USB power adapter, a power cable, and an HDMI cable.

The first 10 games announced for the U.S. release are:

  • Ecco the Dolphin
  • Castlevania: Bloodlines
  • Space Harrier II
  • Shining Force
  • Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine
  • ToeJam & Earl
  • Comix Zone
  • Sonic The Hedgehog
  • Altered Beast
  • Gunstar Heroes

Sega will release the console in Japan on September 19 under the name "Mega Drive Mini." Sega previously stated that the console will get a simultaneous global release. Sega will release the console in Japan with one controller for 6,980 yen (about US$63), and with two controllers for 8,980 yen (about US$81). The console will include an HDMI connection and a USB port for charging.

The previously announced 10 of the 40 titles that will be included in the Japanese console are:

  • Sonic the Hedgehog 2
  • Puyo Puyo 2
  • Shining Force: Kamigami no Isan (Shining Force: The Legacy of Great Intention)
  • Vampire Killer (Castlevania: Bloodlines)
  • Wrestleball (Powerball)
  • Gunstar Heroes
  • Comix Zone
  • Rent A Hero
  • Space Harrier II
  • Madō Monogatari I

The console was originally planned for release in 2018, but was delayed to this year.

The Mega Drive was Sega's third console, and Sega released the console in Japan in 1989. Sega released the console in the same year in North America under the name Sega Genesis. Sega withdrew from the games console market in 2001.
