posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins

This year's combined 21st and 22nd issues of Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine confirmed on Wednesday that Gōshō Aoyama's Detective Conan (Case Closed) manga will again inspire an anime film in 2020. The film will be the 24th film in the franchise.

Additionally, the June issue of Shogakukan's Shōnen Sunday S magazine published the final chapter on Thursday of the manga adaptation of the 2010 anime film Detective Conan: The Lost Ship in The Sky. The manga launched last September. Yutaka Abe and Jirō Maruden drew the manga. Yasuichiro Yamamoto is credited for the film's direction, and Kazunari Kouchi is credited for the film's screenplay. The film was the 14th film in the anime film series.

The June issue of Shōnen Sunday S also revealed that will launch a manga adaptation of the franchise's 22nd film, Detective Conan: Zero the Enforcer, in the magazine's July issue on May 25. Abe and Maruden will again draw the manga. Yuzuru Tachikawa is credited as the film's director, and Takeharu Sakurai is credited for the film's script. The film opened in Japan in April 2018, and earned more than 11 billion yen (about US$97.1 million) worldwide.

The film is a sequel of the series' 20th film, Detective Conan: The Darkest Nightmare, and centers on Tōru "Zero" Amuro. Police chief Hyōe Kuroda, who is rumored to be Rum in the Black Organization, appears for the first time in a film for the franchise.

This year's film, Meitantei Conan: Konjō no Fist (Detective Conan: Fist of Blue Sapphire), opened in Japan on April 12. The film sold 1,458,263 tickets to earn 1,886,292,700 yen (about US$16.85 million) in its first three days, and has earned 3.5 billion yen (about US$31.28 million) as of Sunday.
