The June issue of Kodansha's Monthly Shonen Sirius magazine revealed on Friday that Yuuko Kakihara (Cells at Work! anime series composition) and Yasu (Joshiraku, Toradora!) will launch a spinoff manga of Akane Shimizu's Cells at Work! manga titled Hataraku Kesshōban-chan (Platelets at Work) in the magazine's next issue on May 25. The manga will center on the Platelet characters from the original manga.

Shimizu's original Cells at Work! manga launched in the March 2015 issue of Kodansha's Monthly Shonen Sirius, and Kodansha shipped the fifth compiled volume in Japan in August 2017. Kodansha Comics shipped the manga's fifth volume in English November 2017, and it will also debut the Cells at Work! Code Black spinoff manga this summer. The manga has inspired several spinoff series such as Hataraku Saikin (Bacteria at Work), Hatarakanai Saibō (Cells That Don't Work), and Hataraku Saibō Friend.

The first television anime adaptation of the manga premiered last July. Aniplex of America streamed the series on Crunchyroll. A new anime special aired in December, and Crunchyroll is streaming the special. The anime will get a second season.

Yasu illustrated Yuyuko Takemiya's Toradora! romantic comedy light novel series, and also provided the original character designs for Kagari Tamaoka's Mangirl! manga. Toradora! and Mangirl! received television anime adaptations in 2008 and 2013, respectively. Yasu also illustrated Kōji Kumeta's Joshiraku manga. The manga received a television anime adaptation in 2012. Yasu recently ended another collaboration manga with Kumeta titled the Nan kuru Nee-san on February 20.
