Boruto Anime to Adapt Konoha Shinden Novel in New Arc

posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
New arc starring Guy, Kakashi, Mirai launches on May 12

This year's combined 22nd and 23rd issues of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine announced on Saturday that the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations anime will adapt the Naruto: Konoha Shinden: Yukemuri Ninpōchõ novel starting on May 12.

The novel has three protagonists — Guy, Kakashi, and Mirai (the daughter of Asuma and Kurenai) — and takes place at a hot spring. The novel "ties together Naruto and Boruto," and is set between the final chapter of the original Naruto manga and the Naruto: The Seventh Hokage and the Scarlet Spring spinoff manga. Shō Hinata (Naruto: Konoha Hiden - Shūgen Biyori novel) wrote the novel, which shipped in Japan in August 2016.

The Boruto: Naruto Next Generations television anime series premiered in Japan on TV Tokyo in April 2017, and originally aired on Wednesdays at 5:55 p.m. The anime moved to a new timeslot on Thursdays at 7:25 p.m. in May 2018, and then moved again to a new timeslot on Sundays at 5:30 p.m. on October 7.

Viz Media is simulcasting the series on Hulu as it airs in Japan, and Crunchyroll is also streaming the anime. The anime began airing on Adult Swim's Toonami block on September 29. Viz Media plans to release the anime on home video starting this spring.

The anime is based on Ukyō Kodachi and Mikie Ikemoto's Boruto sequel manga, which launched in Weekly Shonen Jump in May 2016.
