The official website for the television anime of Takeshi Hinata's Ahiru no Sora manga opened and began streaming the anime's first promotional video on Wednesday. The site and the video reveal the main cast, additional staff members, and the opening song "Happy Go Ducky!" by the pillows band.
The main cast stars:
Yūma Uchida as Momoharu Hanazono, the basketball team captain who can dunk and make other plays thanks to his jumping abilities. He has excellent rebounding and blocking skills but poor shooting.
Katsuyuki Konishi as Chiaki Hanazono, Momoharu's twin brother who started playing basketball when he was younger thanks to Momoharu.
Kishō Taniyama as Kenji Natsume, the Hiroshima-born first-year student with remarkable intuition on the court, but he can be harsh in criticizing those who lack motivation.
Mamoru Miyano as Kaname Shigeyoshi, the first-year student whose 198-centimeter (six-foot-six) height gives him a great hook shot
Taku Yashiro as Shinichi Yasuhara, who was on the karate team until he was put on probation for hitting his senior on the team.
Chado Horii as Ryuhei Nabeshima, who joined the team, following in the footsteps of Sora
KENN as Masahiro Saki, who is a complete novice at basketball like Yasuhara and Nabeshima
Sayaka Senbongi as Madoka Yabuchi, a girls' basketball team member who is very kind and giving
Yuna Taniguchi as Nao Nanao, who works at a sporting goods store and is very knowledgeable about basketball
Aya Endō as Yuka Kurumatani (not pictured), Sora's mother
Hideki Fukushima and Michiko Makita are designing the props. Maho Takahashi is directing the art, and Miyuki Sunako is the color key artist. Yōko Ōtake is the director of photography, and Toshihiko Kojima is editing. Jin Aketagawa is directing the sound, and Hiroaki Tsutsumi is composing the music. King Records is producing the music.
In the story, 15-year-old Sora Kurumatani is only 149 centimeters (4'10") tall, but he loves basketball. He enthusiastically joins the basketball club as soon as he gets to high school, but the club is comprised of two terrifying twins who rule the school and their friends. Can Sora continue in this kind of club?
As previously announced, Keizō Kusakawa (Fuuka, Aho Girl, Kan Colle) is credited as chief director, while Shingo Tamaki (Aho Girl) is directing the anime at diomedéa. Go Zappa (Beatless, Koihime Musō, Blend S) is in charge of series composition. Yoshino Honda (Fuuka) is designing the characters.
The anime will premiere in October.
Hinata launched the manga in Weekly Shōnen Magazine in 2003, and Kodansha released the manga's 50th compiled book volume on November 16. The manga has entered its final arc as of January. The series has more than 24 million copies in print.
