Promare Anime Film Gets New Prequel Anime About Lio as Theatergoer Bonus

posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
Film opened in Japan on May 24

The official website for Studio Trigger and XFlag's original anime film Promare revealed on Friday that the second round of bonus presents for theatergoers to the film will be a card with a serial code linking to another completely new "LIO-hen" (LIO Chapter) animation. The anime will tell a prequel story about the character LIO. The card will also bundle a character card for one of nine characters.

Theatergoers currently can receive a different serial code card that links to an all-new 10-minute prequel anime "Galo-hen" (Galo Chapter). The card bundles one of eight character cards for the anime. The first bonus will be available until June 6, and the second bonus with the "LIO-hen" serial code will start on June 7.

The film opened in Japan on May 24 in 200 theaters, and ranked at #8 in its opening weekend.

In the film's story, 30 years ago a cataclysmic event destroyed half the world in a fire, and caused a mutation that created a new race of people called Burnish. Burnish are able to create and control fire. The film centers on the members of the "Burning Rescue" fire squad, who put out fires caused by Burnish. The new rookie of Burning Rescue is Galo, a hotheaded man who wields "Matoi-Tech," named after the "matoi" banners that Edo-period firefighting units used. Galo's encounter with LIO, the leader of a Burnish terrorist group called Mad Burnish, sets the story in motion.

Director Hiroyuki Imaishi and scriptwriter Kazuki Nakashima teamed up again for the new project at Trigger. Trigger and Nakashima are credited with the original work. Shigeto Koyama was in charge of character design and mechanical design, and Sushio (Kill la Kill) was involved as an animator. Tomotaka Kubo (Mary and The Witch's Flower) was the art director, and Saishi Ichiko was in charge of logo design. Hiroyuki Sawano (Attack on Titan, Kill la Kill) composed the music. SANZIGEN Animation Studio handled the 3DCG animation. XFlag is credited with production, and TOHO is distributing the film.
