Netflix announced on Thursday that Yarō Abe's Shinya Shokudō (The Midnight Diner or La Cantine de Minuit) manga is inspiring a new live-action season from Netflix that will debut on Netflix worldwide this fall. The series is the fifth live-action series for the manga. Kaoru Kobayashi returns to reprise his role as Master. Jōji Matsuoka, Nobuhiro Yamashita, and Shōtarō Kobayashi return to direct the series.

The rest of the series' cast is also returning, with the addition of guest cast members Tooru Nakamura, Akira Emoto, Tasuku Emoto, Ryo Katsuji, and Kento Nagayama.

Abe's manga centers on the proprietor of a small, mysterious cafeteria in Shinjuku and his customers. The cafeteria opens at midnight to fix customers any dish they request. Abe launched the manga in Shogakukan's Big Comic Original magazine in 2006.
