Voice actress and singer Shōko Nakagawa announced on Twitter on Sunday that she will perform the new ending theme song "Type: Wild" for the Pokémon Sun & Moon television anime series. Hyadain is arranging the song. The song will debut in the series on July 7.
In the below video, Nakagawa and Hyadain discuss the new song. Nakagawa states that it is a song that everyone can cheer to, and a song that everyone can energetically swing a towel around while listening to it.
Rica Matsumoto, the voice of Satoshi (Ash), originally performed the "Type: Wild" theme song as the fifth ending theme song for the original Pokémon television anime series.
The new version of the song by Nakagawa will be bundled as a single with Nakagawa and enka singer Sachiko Kobayashi's new version of the "Kaze to Issho ni" song, and will ship on July 10. The latter song is a cover of Kobayashi's theme song for the original Pokémon: The First Movie 1998 film, and it will serve as the theme song for the 3D CG remake of the film, Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution.
Nakagawa has guest starred in 12 consecutive Pokémon anime films, including last year's film, Pokémon the Movie: The Power of Us. Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution, the 22nd film in the Pokémon franchise, will open in Japan on July 12.
The Pokémon Sun & Moon anime series premiered on TV Tokyo and its affiliated stations in Japan in November 2016.
The show, under the title Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon, premiered in the United States on Disney XD in May 2017. Although the show is known under just one title in Japan, its U.S. airings have several titles. Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon—Ultra Adventures premiered on Disney XD in March 2018, and Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon—Ultra Legends premiered on Disney XD on March 23.
