Arc System Works America announced on Thursday that it will release the Stay Cool, Kobayashi-San!: A River City Ransom Story game, a spinoff of the River City Ransom (Downtown - Nekketsu Monogatari) series, digitally for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PC via Steam on November 7.
The company describes the game as "a time-traveling, beat'em up set in the Kunio-kun universe." The 2D game for one or two players has an all-new story. The game features an open-ended fighting system and multiple story endings.
The game will also launch digitally in Japan for the PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and PC via Steam on November 7. Yoshihisa Kishimoto (Renegade) and Moqeqe Sekimoto (River City Ransom) are collaborating on the game as directors.
The original game in the Kunio-kun series, Nekketsu Kōha Kunio-kun, debuted in arcades in Japan in 1986 and later received ports for the PlayStation 2 and PC. The most recent game, River City Melee Mach!! (Downtown Rantō Kōshinkyoku Mach), launched globally for PS4, Switch, and PC via Steam.
