Hi Score Girl's Rensuke Oshikiri Launches Crowdfunding for Zashiki-Warashi no Tatami-chan Horror Comedy Anime

Zero-G to animate story of sardonic ghost directed, scripted, voiced by Oshikiri

Manga creator Rensuke Oshikiri (Hi Score Girl, Pupipō!) launched a crowdfunding campaign for his mini anime project Zashiki-Warashi no Tatami-chan (Tatami-chan the Guest Room Spirit) on October 25. The project would be Oshikiri's directorial debut in anime, and he would also draw the art, write the scripts, draft the original character designs, and even voice the titular character.

The "pleasant horror gag comedy" centers around the life of Tatami-chan, a sardonic ghost from Iwate Prefecture who is now living in Tokyo among other spirits, supernatural entities, and humans. In addition to dealing with otherworldly matters, the unemployed Tatami-chan also has to deal with job-hunting as well as paying for gas, water, and electricity.

Shun Tokuda (One Room, The Idolm@ster SideM Wake Atte Mini!) would edit and composite the animation, and Zero-G (The Idolm@ster SideM Wake Atte Mini!, Grand Blue, Tsugumomo) would produce the animation.

According to the crowdfunding page, the production committee has been developing the project for two years, and already has the equivalent of 12 episodes scripted. The staff aims to unveil the project next year.

The staff aims to raise 5 million yen (about US$46,000) through crowdfunding, and has raised 14% of that goal, or 749,000 yen (about US$6,900), as of Sunday with 51 days left. The rewards for the crowdfunding supporters include mobile phone wallpaper (for good luck and fortune), acrylic key holders, T-shirts, Oshikiri's original pilot video, the Blu-ray release, reproductions of the key art, theme song CDs, postcards, and production design collections. For people who fund 500,000 yen (about US$4,600) or more, the staff will offer to produce an original episode "just for you."
