Megalobox Blu-ray Released on July 27

posted on by Andrew Osmond
Includes poster, art book and extra picture dramas

Anime Limited has announced that it will release the series Megalobox as a Collectors Blu-ray on July 27.

The edition will contain a poster and a 120-page art book, including several interviews with the staff. On-disc extras will include over 80 minutes of interviews. There will also be a 'bonus' DVD disc including two audio picture dramas, in Japanese with subtitles (about 15 minutes).

Anime Limited describes the story:

"“Bored, resigned, and unfulfilled, a young man with neither name nor past survives by fighting in underground matches of a sport called “Megalobox,” a form of boxing that utilizes powered exoskeletons. Calling himself JNK. DOG, he feels trapped in a world of crime, poverty, and ecological collapse.

"All that changes when he has a chance encounter with Yuri, the reigning king of Megalobox. Now, obsessed with proving himself, JNK. DOG becomes a man driven to do whatever it takes to fight this way to the to top of the rankings and take on the champion.”

Yō Moriyama (animation director for Master Keaton and Lupin III: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine, concept designer for Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress and Attack on Titan) directed the series at TMS Entertainment, and he was also in charge of conceptual design. Katsuhiko Manabe (Shin Kyūseishu Densetsu Hokuto no Ken: Raoh-den Gekitō no Shō, Shin Kyūseishu Densetsu Hokuto no Ken: Raoh-den Junai no Shō) and Kensaku Kojima (live-action Shinya Shokudō series) both oversaw and wrote the scripts, and mabanua (Kids on the Slope) composed the music.

Megalobox is a tribute to the manga and anime Tomorrow's Joe (Ashita no Joe), and was released to mark its 50th anniversary.
