Virtual Kotatsu Festival in October

Includes programme with Mount Head animator Koji Yamamura

The Kotatsu festival, which normally runs in Cardiff and Aberystwyth, has announced a line-up which will run on October 24 and 25 on the festival's YouTube channel and on Zoom.

Saturday October 24

11 a.m. Koji Yamamura and Kotatsu Special (YouTube, 90 minutes) - Films from Koji Yamamura introduced by the animator (pictured right), including the UK Premiere of Dreams Into Drawing The other films by Yamamura include Mount Head, Notes on Monstropedia and Water Dreams. Followed by short films by independent film-makers including the world premiere of The King of Amechau Country 〜Mother Goose〜 by Miho Yata.

1 p.m. Miho Yata and Takeshi Yoda Q&A (Zoom, 60 minutes) - Talk with Japanese animator Miho Yata and composer and theremin player Takeshi Yoda, who performed the music in The King of Amechau Country, above.

6 p.m. Student Programme 1 (YouTube, 75 minutes) - Films by students at Tokyo Zokei University and Tama Art University.

Sunday October 25

12 p.m. Chie Arai Animation Workshop (Zoom, 75 minutes) - Workshop with animator Chie Arai about creating the festival's mascot character. Suitable for over-13s.

2 p.m. Fusako Yusaki Q&A (Zoom, 75 minutes) - Talk with Japanese clay animation pioneer Fusako Yusaki, pictured left.

4 p.m. Student Programme 2 (YouTube, 75 minutes) - Films by students at Kyoto Seika University, Hiroshima City University and Kyoto University of the Arts.

6 p.m Koji Yamamura and Kotatsu Special (YouTube, 90 minutes) - Repeat of programme from Saturday morning, above.

According to the festival website, "All films are in Japanese with English subtitles. The stream is declared safe for children, the equivalent of a U rating in UK cinema. Please be sure to subscribe to our Kotatsu YouTube Channel in advance and click the notification bell to receive all notifications when we go live or post any new content. Each YouTube stream will have a 30 minute lobby prior to programme start where you are free to join, settle in, get your popcorn and drinks ready and chat amongst yourselves."
