Yoshiaki Kawajiri films available November 23 on Blu-ray, DVD and Limited Blu-ray editions

Manga Entertainment has announced that it will release Yoshiaki Kawajiri's 1987 horror-action film Wicked City together with the director's subsequent OAV Demon City Shinjuku on November 23. It will be released in Blu-ray and DVD editions, while there will also be a limited Blu-ray edition with art cards and an art booklet.

In addition, there will be a variant limited edition exclusive to HMV, which will include art cards and a poster.

Sentai Filmworks, which released Wicked City in America, describes the film's story:

Beyond the boundaries of our ordinary existence lies a dark and dreadful parallel world where demons dwell and humans dare not tread. For centuries, peace has existed between our world and theirs. To preserve that fragile balance and to ensure the survival of humankind, a new deal must be brokered, but dark and powerful forces lust to destroy the accord. When a militant group rises from the shadows, two elite agents are mobilized to counter the destructive forces and preserve the balance of our universe.

Yoshiaki Kawajiri (Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, Ninja Scroll) directed Wicked City at MADHOUSE in 1987. The film is an adaptation of Hideyuki Kikuchi's (Vampire Hunter D) novel series of the same name. Seven Seas Entertainment released the three-volume novel series in English in 2009-2010.

The OAV Demon City Shinjuku was released a year later in 1988. It was also directed by Yoshiaki Kawajiri, adapted from the fiction of Hideyuki Kikuchi and made at Madhouse. In the story, a man named Levih Rah has created a Demon City in Tokyo's Shinjuku district, and he aims to destroy the entire planet. Sayaka Rama vows to take on Levih Rah to rescue her captive father, and she comes to Demon City with a teenager named Kyoya and the mythical figure Mephisto.
