posted on by Andrew Osmond
On Monday October 11, Studio Canal will release the twentieth anniversary edition of Hayao Miyazaki's 2001 film Spirited Away, as an Amazon exclusive. It will include the film on both Blu-ray and DVD.
This new edition will be packed in an oversized box (pictured). The boxset includes a hardback The Art of Spirited Away book: the original Japanese poster; oversized art cards; a bath token bookmark, a bathhouse pouch bag and a card holder wallet.
In the story, a young girl, Chihiro, and her parents stumble into what appears to be an abandoned theme park. But all is not as it seems, as the theme park is a bath-house for the spirits, and not a place where humans are welcome. Chihiro must fend for herself and rescue her parents, as they have been turned to pigs as punishment for eating the food meant for the gods.
The film won the Best Animated Feature Oscar in 2003 and was joint winner of the Golden Bear award at the 2002 Berlin Film Festival.
Funimation will release Tenchi Muyo! War on Geminar on Blu-ray. The anime is set in an alternate world called Geminar, where countries have fought endless wars with replicas of humanoid Seikishi weapons that they found in ancient ruins. 15-year-old Kenshi Masaki, the half-brother of Tenchi Muyo! protagonist Tenchi Masaki, is summoned from Earth to Geminar. The 13-episode original video anime series was originally released in 2009-2010.
Funimation summarises the story:
"Fifteen year old Kenshi Masaki was taken from his home planet, transported to a galaxy far, far away, and captured by a gorgeous princess. This royal beauty quickly claims Kenshi as her personal servant and lends him out to all the lecherous ladies at her prestigious boarding school. On the rare occasion Kenshi doesn't have his hands full with a curvaceous coed, he can be found training for the intergalactic mecha battle royale looming on the horizon. Helping the princess save her planet is Kenshi's ticket home, but losing means he'll be stuck scrubbing backs in the interstellar sauna for the rest of his life! Every boy should be so lucky."
