Kakegururi, Isekai Quartet and Plunderer Released on Monday

posted on by Andrew Osmond
New releases from Anime Limited and Funimation

On Monday January 31, Anime Limited will release the first season of Kakegurui as a Collectors Blu-ray set, containing a playing card set and a 32-page art booklet.

Yen Press, which released the original manga in English under the title Kakegurui - Compulsive Gambler, described the series:

Hyakkaou Private Academy. An institution for the privileged with a very peculiar curriculum. You see, when you're the sons and daughters of the wealthiest of the wealthy, it's not athletic prowess or book smarts that keep you ahead. It's reading your opponent, the art of the deal. What better way to hone those skills than with a rigorous curriculum of gambling? At Hyakkaou Private Academy, the winners live like kings, and the losers are put through the wringer. But when Yumeko Jabami enrolls, she's gonna teach these kids what a high roller really looks like!

Yuichiro Hayashi (Garo the Animation, PES: Peace Eco Smile) directed the anime at MAPPA, and Yasuko Kobayashi (Attack on Titan, Garo the Animation, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Shakugan no Shana) was in charge of the series scripts. Manabu Akita (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure episode animation director, design assistant) designed the characters. TECHNOBOYS PULCRAFT GREEN-FUND (Witch Craft Works, Fate/kaleid liner Prisma☆Illya 3rei!!) handled the anime's music.

Funimation will release the first season of Isekai Quartet on Blu-ray. The anime was "broadcast" in spring 2019, and is a crossover series featuring characters from the Overlord, KonoSuba – God’s blessing on this wonderful world!!, Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-, and Saga of Tanya the Evil franchises. The anime features the characters in super deformed form.

Minoru Ashina (Kaiju Girls, Pure Pure Purea Desu Overlord shorts) scripted and directed the project. Minoru Takehara served as both character designer and chief animation director. Studio Puyukai (Kaiju Girls, Lord Marksman and Vanadis, Pure Pure Purea Desu Overlord shorts) animated the work.

In the anime's story, a mysterious button suddenly appears one day, and characters who press it are taken to a new world to gather.

Funimation will also release a limited Blu-ray/DVD edition of Plunderer Season 1 Part 1. This edition will include an acrylic standee, eight art cards, two stickers and an artbook.

Yen Press, which, licensed the "heroic action fantasy" manga, describes the story:

"It's the year 305 of the Alcian calendar, and the world is controlled by numbers. Every human born is branded with a "Count,” which could mean anything from the number of kilometers walked to the amount of people who have said your food is tasty. And if your Count drops to 0… you'll be sent into the Abyss! After Hina's mother's Count dropped to 0, her last request is for Hina to look for the Legendary Red Baron."

Hiroyuki Kanbe (Oreimo both seasons, Gonna be the Twin-Tail!!) directed the anime series at studio Geek Toys (RErideD). Masashi Suzuki (Isuca, Lord of Vermilion: The Crimson King, Minami-ke: Okawari) oversaw the series scripts, and Yuka Takashina (Dance with Devils), Yūki Fukuchi (chief animation director for Bakuon!!), and Hiroki Fukuda (key animator for I want to eat your pancreas) designed the characters. Miku Itō performed the show's opening theme song "Plunderer," and Rina Honnizumi (the voice of Hina) performed the ending theme song "Countless Days."
