Japanese Film Festival Hosts Panel on Japanese Films in South Asia

Deadline to register to attend Zoom panel is February 5 at 5:00 p.m. IST

The staff of the Japanese Film Festival (JFF) announced on Tuesday that it will host a panel discussion on the "Trajectories of the Japanese Film Industry and its Future in South Asia" on February 7 at 6:00 p.m. IST. The panel includes producer Shôzô Ichiyama (Ash Is Purest White, Violent Cop) and editor Beena Paul (Sometimes, Carbon).

Indian film critic Gautam Bhaskaran will conduct the panel.

The panel will take place on Zoom and registrations for it are open until February 5 at 5:00 p.m. IST.

The JFF is streaming the Patema Inverted and Time of Eve anime films in India from February 14-27. It is also streaming the live-action film of Yayoiso's ReLIFE manga.

JFF announced on its Indian Facebook page on January 4 that it is canceling its physical Delhi event due to rising cases of COVID-19.

The Japanese Film Festival streamed 11 anime films in India in December 2020 as part of the 2020 festival.

The Japan Foundation hosts the Japanese Film Festival (JFF) annually in major cities across India. The Foundation hosted the JFF 2019 event in Kolkata, Mumbai, Bangaluru, New Delhi, Gurugram, Chennai, and Guwahati. The JFF screened films such as Children of the Sea, Garden of Words your name., Weathering With You, Lu over the wall, and live-action Tokyo Ghoul in 2019.

The Japan Foundation established its South Asian chapter in New Delhi in 1994. The Foundation promotes cultural and intellectual exchange as well as Japanese Language education abroad.
