Crowdfunding underway for March 27 screening

The staff of the Japan Habba Bangalore event announced on March 15 that the event will screen the 4K remaster of the Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama (Ramayana - Rama Ouji Densetsu) anime film on March 25 at the SRV Theatre, Bangalore. The staff will announce the screening time at a later date, but have announced that it will be between 10:00 a.m. IST and 6:30 p.m. IST.

The event will host more screenings of the film provided that crowdfunding goals are met. The next possible screening is scheduled for March 27 and will require a total of 80 donations from 160 registrants to meet its goal.

The film's website describes the story:

In Ayodhya, the royal palace of Kosala kingdom in ancient India, four princes were born to three queens, each of whom grew to great stature. After being banished from the palace for fourteen years due to court intrigue, Prince Rama retreated to the forest with his beautiful wife Sita. Then, Rama, who had vanquished the demons of the forest, invites the wrath of the demon king Ravana, and his wife Sita is kidnapped. Rama goes to rescue Sita with the help of the monkey army. But while fighting the powerful Ravana army, his brother Lakshmana is seriously wounded. At this time, Hanuman, the general of the monkey army, flew to the Himalayas and carried a mountain of medicinal herbs that healed his wounds, saving his life. Eventually, Rama's army defeated Ravana's army using the "Heavenly Weapons" and returned to Ayodhya in triumph.

The remastered version of the film launched this year, which is the 70th anniversary year of India-Japan diplomatic relations.

The anime film premiered in 1992, the 40th anniversary year of India-Japan diplomatic relations. Cartoon Network aired the film on Indian television in subsequent years.

Yugo Sako directed and co-produced the film at Nippon Ramayana Film Co. Vanraj Bhatia composed the music. Moriyasu Taniguchi designed the characters for the film. Satoshi Matsuoka was the art director and Kazuyuki Kobayashi was the animation director.

The staff of Japan Habba describes the event as an "Indo Japanese Cultural Festival to portray the culture, arts and crafts of both the countries."
