Anime Limited Acquires The Irresponsible Captain Tylor TV and OAV Series

posted on by Andrew Osmond
Company also announced there will be a Collector's Blu-ray of Emma: A Victorian Romance Season 2, a 4K UHD Blu-ray of Violet Evergarden: The Movie, and a Collector's Blu-ray of El Hazard: The Alternative World

Anime Limited has announced that it has acquired The Irresponsible Captain Tylor - both the original TV series in 1993 and the subsequent 10-part OVA series in 1994. More details of the home edition, described as being "across two releases," are TBC, but there will be more information at the end of June.

Right Stuf, which released the title in America, described the anime:

Earth's Fate Depends on One Man. But is he a Total Idiot? Or a Complete Genius? From director Kōichi Mashimo (.HACK//SIGN, AVENGER, SORCERER HUNTERS) and character designer Tomohiro Hirata (LAST EXILE, URUSEI YATSURA, TRINITY BLOOD) comes one of anime's most beloved action/comedies: THE IRRESPONSIBLE CAPTAIN TYLOR! This masterful blend of humour, adventure and drama has been a smash hit in countries all over the world! Shortly after enlisting in the prestigious United Planets Space Force, Tylor experiences a bizarrely meteoric rise through the ranks placing him as Captain of the Destroyer Soyokaze. He's excited to accept his new post, but little does he realize that the Soyokaze is just a dumping ground for misfits and other eccentrics that the military can't figure out what to do with. Fortunately for Tylor, he'd never planned on working very hard anyway, so it's a perfect fit!

Yoshioka's Uchū Ichi no Musekinin Otoko (The Most Irresponsible Man in Space) novels inspired The Irresponsible Captain Tylor television anime in 1993, as well as a 10-episode OAV series that ran from 1994 to 1996.

Anime Limited has also announced that it will release the following:

Emma: A Victorian Romance Season 2 will be released as a Collector's Blu-ray on August 8, including a 44-page booklet.

Violet Evergarden: The Movie, the 2020 cinema film telling the final story of Violet Evergarden, will be released on 4K UHD Blu-ray on August 28. There will also be a standard Blu-ray in this edition, which will also include a 68-page booklet, an additional 12-page booklet, an A3 replica of the cinema poster, sixteen art cards and a translation of Violet's letter as depicted in the film.

El Hazard: The Alternative World will be released as a Collector's Blu-ray on September 26. Broadcast on TV in 1998, this is the sequel to the video series El Hazard - The Magnificent World and El Hazard 2. This edition will include a booklet and four art cards.
