Film screens in Japanese with English subtitles

PVR Pictures announced on Twitter on Friday that the One Piece Film Red anime film will open in Indian theaters on October 7. The film will screen in Japanese with English subtitles.

The company announced the license in early August and describes its story:

The story takes place on an island where Uta, the world's most popular diva, performs for the first time in public. Uta's voice, with which she sings while hiding her true identity, has been described as "otherworldly".

The film opened in Japan on August 6. The film had IMAX screenings in 27 theaters in Japan that opened alongside regular screenings. The film also had MX4D, 4DX, and Dolby Atmos screenings on opening day.

The film centers on a new character named Uta, Shanks' daughter. Kaori Nazuka is the speaking voice of Uta, while Ado is the character's singing voice. Ado also performs the film's theme song "Shinjidai" ("New Genesis").

Goro Taniguchi (Code Geass, One Piece: Defeat The Pirate Ganzak! special) directed One Piece Film Red. Tsutomu Kuroiwa (One Piece Film Gold, One Piece: Heart of Gold, GANTZ:O, live-action Black Butler) wrote the screenplay, and One Piece manga creator Eiichiro Oda himself served as executive producer.

Oda also designed the "battle wear" characters for the film, which have a theme of "rock x pirates" and feature leather and studs for a Middle Ages armor vibe.

One Piece Stampede, the 14th and previous film in the franchise, opened in Japan in August 2019, and earned more than 10 billion yen (about US$93 million) at the box office worldwide.
