Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Destiny Ultimate Edition Blu-ray Delayed to October 31 (Updated)

posted on by Andrew Osmond
Release of the sequel to Mobile Suit Gundam Seed, including both HD remastered and original versions of the 50-part series, Mobile Suit Gundam Seed C.E.73: Stargazer, four compilation films, 164-page art book, poster and art cards

The original version of this article wrongly claimed that Anime Limited would release an Ultimate Blu-ray edition of Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Destiny on September 19. However, the company sent out the following message to customers who had ordered the Ultimate Edition:

"We're contacting you to let you know that the release date of this item has now moved to October 31st, 2022. Unfortunately, we've been informed of delays to the production of print elements of this title. As such, the release date has been moved to the date noted above. We're still expecting stock to arrive prior to this date, and your order will ship as soon as completed stock arrives at our fulfilment centre.

"Apologies for the late notification of this delay, but unfortunately this is an issue we were only informed of late in the process ourselves."

Many thanks to ArchetypeSaber for the heads-up.

This edition will include 14 Blu-ray discs, carrying the 50-episode HD remastered version of the anime; the Mobile Suit Gundam Seed C.E.73: Stargazer anime (an original story set in the world of the series); the original 50-episode SD version of the series; and the four-part Special Edition compilation films of the series.

The release also includes a 164-page art book, thirteen art cards, and a poster.

The series is a sequel to the previous Mobile Suit Gundam Seed series and is summarised on AllTheAnime as follows:

"The year is Cosmic Era 73. The Bloody Valentine War, fought between the PLANTS space colonies and the nations of the Atlantic Federation, has ended... But one boy, Shin Asuka, is finding that incredibly hard. A coordinator who lost his entire family during the Battle of Orb, he now fights with ZAFT in one of their newest machines, the Impulse Gundam. Of course, ZAFT is only developing these machines for defensive applications - or so they claim - but when a group of Federation operatives steal some of these prototype machines, the world is once again plunged towards war."

The first Mobile Suit Gundam Seed television anime aired from 2002 to 2003, followed by Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Destiny from 2004 to 2005. The three-part Mobile Suit Gundam Seed C.E.73: Stargazer anime project followed in 2006. Sony Music Anime Festival '06 announced a planned film project in May 2006, which was recently confirmed as a sequel film.
