Goodbye Don Glees! Opens in U.K. and Ireland Cinemas on Wednesday

posted on by Andrew Osmond
Film is about three boys' journey into Japanese mountains, directed by Atsuko Ishizuka (A Place Further Than the Universe)

Atsuko Ishizuka and Madhouse's Goodbye, Don Glees! original anime film will screen in UK and Ireland cinemas from Wednesday November 30, with screening details at https://dongleesfilm.co.uk/. It will be screening in both subtitled and English-dubbed versions at cinemas. The teaser below is for the North American cinema release:

The Edinburgh International Film Festival describes the film as follows:

"Farm boy Roma is determined to upstage the school bullies with his own spectacular fireworks display. His friend Toto is back from Tokyo, and together they are a gang, with their own makeshift clubhouse – they are the DonGlees! But when the boys are accused of starting a fire, they must travel to the nearby mountain to prove their innocence. Cue the wild adventures. Atsuko Ishizuka blends heartfelt final-summer-of-youth vibes with stunning sequences of whimsical fantasy."

Ishizuka (A Place Further Than the Universe, No Game, No Life Zero, The Pet Girl of Sakurasou) directed the anime and penned the script, and Takahiro Yoshimatsu (A Place Further Than the Universe, Hunter × Hunter, Trigun) designed the characters. Kadokawa is distributing the film.

Ayano Okamoto was the art director of the film, while Eiko Tsunadō and Akihiro Hirasawa were credited for art setting. Saho Yamane collaborated on the art board production. Harue Ono was the color key artist. Yūki Kawashita was the compositing director of photography. Shigenori Hirozumi and Kana Imagaki were the 3D directors. Kashiko Kimura was the editor. Yoshiaki Fujisawa (No Game, No Life Zero, A Place Further Than the Universe, Revue Starlight) composed the music. Jin Aketagawa was the audio director, while Tsutomu Ueno handled the sound effects.

Goodbye, Don Glees! opened on February 18. The film screened at this year's Annecy International Animation Film Festival, and also at Montreal's 26th Fantasia International Film Festival.
