Makoto Shinkai's Suzume Film Earns 11.35 Billion Yen to Enter Japan's All-Time Top 30

Makoto Shinkai's Suzume (Suzume no Tojimari) anime film has earned 11.35 billion yen (about US$87 million) and has sold over 8.51 million tickets as of Tuesday. The film ranked at #2 in its eighth weekend. It is now the #30 highest-grossing film of all time in Japan, and the #11 highest-grossing anime film of all time in Japan.

Suzume already earned more than any Detective Conan film, and has now surpassed the final Evangelion film. Only Demon Slayer, five Ghibli films, Shinkai's own last two films, One Piece Film Red, and Jujutsu Kaisen 0 have earned more in Japan.

The film ranked #3 in the top 10 highest-grossing domestic films in Japan for 2022, with 10 billion yen (about US$75.4 million) as of December 25.

Suzume opened at #1 on November 11, 2022 and sold 1.33 million tickets and earned 1.88 billion yen (about US$13.49 million) in its first three days. Masayoshi Tanaka (your name., Weathering With You) designed the characters. Kenichi Tsuchiya (your name., Garden of Words) was the animation director.
